About Cassava Market Access Project

Self Help Africa has received funding from Irish Aid to implement a five-year project dubbed “Cassava Market Access Project” – CaMaP. The project goal is to have an increased reliable cassava seed system, sustainable market access for increased income and investment for smallholder farmers (SHF) and improved regulatory environment for cassava production and trade. The project will cover Busia, Homabay, Kisumu, and Migori counties in Kenya (target counties). The project’s objective is to increase incomes and reduce poverty for 8,000 cassava smallholder farmers by promoting efficient and well-functioning seed systems and markets. The outcome will be:

  1. Increased access to clean and quality seed
  2. Increased market access by seed entrepreneurs
  3. Increased market access for cassava products and by products by smallholder farmers
  4. Increased access to finance by cassava value chain actors.

SHA Kenya requires the provision of financial services to cassava processing units, seed companies, seed entrepreneurs and smallholder farmers.

Interested Financial institutions should submit their application by email, clearly indicating in the Subject Header “Application for provision of Financial Services Provider for the Cassava Market Access Project” to [email protected] no later than 5pm Tuesday 28th May 2024 . Only shortlisted institutions will be contacted. If you do not receive a response within 90 days of closing the applications, please consider your proposal unsuccessful.

The application should include:

  1. A technical proposal for carrying out the assignment which should contain:
    • The motivation for carrying out this assignment.
    • The understanding of the assignment.
    • An overview of the proposed financing product that will be implemented in the target counties.
    • An overview of how the farmer training, saving, transacting, and borrowing will be managed.
    • An overview of how the revolving fund will be created and managed to allow continued lending to the cassava value chain actors beyond the life of project.
    • Statement of soundness of the FSP and competence and relevant experience of key personnel that indicates the capacity to successfully conduct this activity.
    • Proposed plan for carrying out the assignment including proposed methodology and work plan.
    • CVs of key personnel
  2. A financial proposal including all relevant taxes.
