Tropical Storm Ana Emergency Appeal
On January 25th last, Tropical Storm Ana made landfall from the Indian Ocean and swept through Malawi with devasting effects. This has led to displacement of more than 100,000 families. Heavy rainfall, strong winds and large scale flooding has damaged thousands of hectares of crops, washed away livestock and damaged vital infrastructure. Many areas are inaccessible by road.
In the Mulanje district of Malawi, one of the worst affected regions, Self Help Africa is working with local partners to provide emergency assistance to almost 7,000 displaced families sheltering in temporary camps hastily set up in local schools and churches.
