Self Help Africa has been awarded a โ€˜Best in Agricultureโ€™ prize at the prestigious international development awards in Kenya.

Receiving the award at a ceremony in Nairobi last weekend, Country Director Peter Okoth described the prize as a victory for the small scale farming communities with whom Self Help Africa has worked across Kenya for over 30 years.

He said that from small beginnings as a small NGO that operated in Nakuru County, Self Help Africa had grown and developed into a nationwide organisation that had carried out work in 46 out of Kenyaโ€™s 47 counties.

Kenyaโ€™s prestigious annual NGO Awards seek to celebrate excellence, innovation and impact across the countryโ€™s civil society sector, and recognise organisations and individuals who are driving transformation and improving lives.

Public voting accounted for 40% of the overall score at the annual awards, with the remaining assessment following a technical review by a panel of adjudicators.

There are currently more than 11,000 registered NGOs in Kenya, and more than 320 were nominated for prizes at the 2025 awards ceremony.
