The communities that Self Help Africa works with have few defences, and they are extremely vulnerable. It’s imperative to act as fast as possible to help keep them safe, and establish a dedicated COVID-19 response across all the countries where we work.
Our response now is to immediately strengthen the WASH (water and sanitation) programmes in the most vulnerable communities where we work – providing households with soap and handwash, information on COVID-19 and advice on correct handwashing; dignity kits and sanitary materials for women and girls, as well as jerry cans to transport and store water at home.

As COVID-19 sweeps the globe, the importance of regular hand washing and social distancing are vital to containing the pandemic. We all know that the world’s poorest families, with limited health services and few resources, could be devastated by this virus.
