Aisha’s Nigerian groundnut business success

leahUncategorised

In a small village in the heart of Nigeria’s Kano State, young entrepreneur Aisha was struggling to source high-quality nuts at the right price for her burgeoning groundnut cake (Kuli-Kuli) and oil business.

But that all changed when she joined our ‘Youth In Work’ project. Aisha quickly learned how to source ingredients more efficiently, allowing her to maximise her profits without sacrificing the quality of her products.

She has since improved the quality control around her cake production, improving storage for her cakes and oil to protect them from dirt and insects.

“I also ensure my processing environment is clean before starting production,” she said.

Now, armed with the right knowledge and tools, Aisha is on a mission to build on her business’ success and increase her efficiency, income and financial independence – starting with the introduction of an oil extraction machine to boost her production capacity.

Self Help Africa has worked in Nigeria for more than 25 years, previously as United Purpose and Concern Universal.

Our Youth in Work project is helping 50,000 young people in Kano State, Nigeria, get back into work by creating more job opportunities across the entire food system. That means everything from growing crops like sorghum, millet, soybean, and groundnut, to processing, transporting, selling, and even preparing them – every step from farm to table.
