Seasoned Irish adventurers David Burns and Maghnus Collins will be sticking close to home for their next expedition in aid of Self Help Africa, but that doesn’t mean it won’t be one of their toughest challenges yet.
Starting this summer, the pair will begin Swim 360, an unprecedented swim around the entire island of Ireland!
Starting June 1st, the duo will depart from Dalkey — with support from Expedition Lead Philip Hatton and Water Support Leish McPartland — on their 1600km journey, a feat they expect to take between 90 and 120 days.
“It’s going to be tougher than anything we have ever done before. That’s the attraction I suppose, it’s a challenge that might break us” said Burns. “We wanted a opportunity to really test ourselves and it’s a real bonus that we can do that at home.”
Burns and Collins’s last adventure, Silk Roads to Shanghai, saw them spending 277 days on the road, running, cycling, and kayaking their way from Istanbul to Shanghai. They raised €40,000 for Self Help Africa in the process.
The proceeds from Swim 360 will be shared between Self Help Africa and RNLI Lifeboats. You can support their efforts by donating on the Swim 360 My Charity page.
