Self Help Africa UK supporters will have the chance to see their donations go twice as far, if they donate to an upcoming ‘Green Match Fund’ that’s been set up to support initiatives that combat pressing environmental challenges.
During the week of 18th – 25th April, donations to Self Help Africa will be doubled by The Big Give’s Green Match Fund, to support a programme that is supporting farmers cooperatives to produce drought tolerant varieties of seed.
Seed producer cooperatives are being supported by Self Help Africa to produce varieties of cereal seed that have shorter maturing cycles or can withstand hotter and drier growing conditions. This makes them easier to grow in extreme and unpredictable weather conditions.
Many community-based seed producers earn their income from producing quality seed that they grow in controlled conditions and sell to other farmers.
The Green Match Fund runs over one week (18th – 25th April) to coincide with Earth Day on Monday 22nd April. Match-funding is offered by The Big Give on a first-come, first-served basis, and donations will be doubled until the funds run out.
Self Help Africa is hoping to raise £5,000 from supporters for the project, which will be doubled by the Green Match Fund to provide £10,000 to invest in community-based producers of drought-tolerant seed.
With your support, we’re mitigating the effects of climate change and building community resilience for farming families across rural Africa.
Find out more on our Green Match Fund page and double your donation from 18th – 25th April.
