From Tuesday 28th November to Tuesday 5th December, supporters of Self Help Africa have the opportunity to double their donation thanks to the Big Give Christmas Challenge, the UK’s largest match funding campaign. Don’t delay and donate today!

The Big Give’s Christmas Challenge is a fantastic opportunity for charities involved to raise vital funds and build awareness of their work. Last year, thanks to generous supporters, the Christmas Challenge raised over £20,000 for Self Help Africa.

This year, Self Help Africa is raising money for its ‘Financial Services for Rural Communities’ project in Ethiopia. The aim of this project is to increase income and food security in rural areas by improving access to sustainable financial services. Access to financial services is crucial to rural development, but Ethiopia has one of the lowest financial inclusion ratios of sub-Saharan Africa.

Self Help Africa will work with four Rural Savings and Credit Cooperatives (RuSACCOs), building their operational capacity through tailored training programmes, providing essential equipment and supporting the development of business plans.

As a result of this intervention, more smallholder households will benefit from access to saving and credit facilities. Farmers like Bezina will see an increase in savings and disposable income, building their resilience to external shocks such as drought.

Donations to this project via will be matched for 7 days from 12pm on 28th November, #GivingTuesday.

If you’d like to support Self Help Africa’s work this year, it is highly recommend doing so during the Christmas Challenge as your donation can be doubled during this period, helping your money go further for African farmers.

An amazing £15,000 of match-funding is available and will be offered on a first-come first-served basis, so supporters taking part on the first day of the challenge have a highest chance of having their donation matched. Donations will be doubled until the funds run out.

A gift of £35 this Christmas could be doubled to £70, helping to support many more farmers and their families to earn a living.
