BIG GIVE CHRISTMAS CHALLENGE 2021

Self Help AfricaKenya, News

As the producers of much of the food grown on small farms, Africa’s women farmers are locked in a struggle to provide for their families in the face of drier, hotter and more unpredictable weather conditions.

In Baringo County in Kenya, decades of extreme weather have contributed to low agricultural productivity, frequent food and nutrition insecurity and high levels of stunting in children under-5.

This year’s Big Give Christmas Challenge will support Self Help Africa’s work to improve the nutritional diversity of 1,000 households, and support mothers to improve their health and the health of their children. For seven days only, from 30th November – 7th December, every contribution, big or small, that’s made to us through The Big Give will be doubled, meaning that we can achieve twice as much with your donation.

Support from The Big Give will enable us to establish kitchen gardens and poultry keeping, provide community cooking demonstrations, as well as training on breastfeeding and nutrition education.

“Baringo has experienced some of the worst effects of global warming with drought, flooding and locust invasions all affecting poor families who rely on farming for their survival.” says Self Help Africa’s local director, Miriam Cherogony.

“With your support, we’re helping farmers cope with these challenges, so they can provide balanced and nutritious diets for their children.” she added.

Donations to this project via theBigGive.org.uk will be matched for 7 days from 12pm (midday) on 30th November. An amazing £10,000 of match-funding is available and donations will be doubled until the funds run out. To find out more call us on 01743 277170 or e-mail [email protected]
