As the Executive Director at Self Help Africa US, Courtney fosters impactful growth initiatives and partnerships through all aspects of business development, including event management, fundraising campaigns, as well as the recruitment and management of highly motivated advisory boards. Before joining Self Help Africa in 2023, Courtney worked at BNP Paribas Asset Management, where she served as Global Marketing Events Director. In this role, she successfully oversaw the firm’s global event strategy, executed top-tier client trainings, and played a pivotal role in implementing and driving the adoption of global training programs. Courtney holds a Bachelor of Science degree in both Business Management and Mass Communications from the University of Florida.

Andrea Huswan, M.S.
Fundraising and Development Specialist
Andrea Huswan is a Fundraising and Development Specialist at Self Help Africa. Andrea holds an M.S. in Public Relations and Corporate Communication from New York University and has more than five years of experience in public relations, fundraising, nonprofit development, and strategic communications. Her experience spans the nonprofit, agency, and corporate sectors, where she has led engagement and communications initiatives that strengthen partnerships and advance mission-driven impact. She is passionate about using storytelling and strategic engagement to inspire action and build meaningful connections.

Louise James
US Trusts and Foundations Advisor
As the Trusts and Foundations Advisor at Self Help Africa, Louise leads the development and stewardship of funding partnerships with trusts and foundations, working closely with colleagues across the organization’s technical sectors and country programs to secure support for impactful development initiatives. Before joining Self Help Africa in 2022, Louise built extensive experience in fundraising, grant-making, and corporate partnerships through roles at the Aga Khan Foundation and Hilton in the Community Foundation. Before transitioning to the international development sector in 2001, she spent four years in the City of London, working in Equity Derivatives at Goldman Sachs and Emerging Markets at ABN Amro. Louise holds a Master of Arts degree in Geography and International Relations from the University of Aberdeen.
