Self Help Africa has been named the winner of a prestigious prize as the ‘Best in Agriculture’ at the annual international development awards in Kenya.
Receiving the award at a ceremony in Nairobi last weekend, Country Director Peter Okoth described the prize as a victory for the small scale farming communities with whom Self Help Africa has worked across Kenya for over 30 years.
He said that from small beginnings, when Self Help Africa operated as a small NGO in Nakuru County, the organisation had since then developed a nationwide presence in 46 out of Kenya’s 47 counties.
Kenya’s prestigious annual NGO Awards seek to celebrate excellence, innovation and impact across the country’s civil society sector, and recognise organisations and individuals who are driving transformation and improving lives.
Public voting accounted for 40% of the overall score at the annual awards, with the remaining assessment following a technical review by a panel of adjudicators.
There are currently more than 11,000 registered NGOs in Kenya, and more than 320 were nominated for prizes at the 2025 awards ceremony.
