On 10 October 2025, an extraordinary community of supporters in New York gathered in the city for a night of impact, celebration, and inspiration at Self Help Africa’s 15th annual Change Makers Ball.

Thanks to their generosity, we raised approximately $400,000 to support Self Help Africa’s mission across the continent.

We were proud to welcome Jaimie Alexander as our Master of Ceremonies. The acclaimed actress and Self Help Africa Ambassador, particularly well known for her starring role in NBC’s Blindspot and Marvel's Thor.

During the evening, we honored Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson, world-renowned astrophysicist, author, and science communicator, with the Empowering Africa Award for his dedication to making knowledge accessible and inspiring future generations.

RISE – Resilient Initiatives for Sustainable Enterprise in Malawi

This year’s Ball supported families in Malawi recovering from extreme drought and Cyclone Freddy. Through RISE, over 72,000 households will gain access to clean water, solar energy, microfinance, sustainable farming tools, and income-generating opportunities.
