Grants made to Self Help Africa US through Donor-Advised Funds can be designated in one of two ways:

A donor-advised fund (DAF) is a special type of account created exclusively for charitable giving. Individuals can deposit cash, stocks, or other assets into their DAF and receive an immediate tax deduction. The funds in the account grow tax-free, and the donor can later recommend donations to their preferred charities over time. DAFs are gaining popularity because they offer a straightforward and tax-advantaged way to support causes like Self Help Africa’s.

How Does a Donor-Advised Fund Work?

To set up a DAF, an individual makes a tax-deductible contribution (such as cash, stock, or real estate) to a sponsoring organization, like a community foundation or financial institution. The donor receives a tax receipt when the funds are deposited. The sponsoring organization then manages the account, allowing the funds to grow tax-free.
