Self Help Africa has been named the winner of a prestigious prize as the \u2018Best in Agriculture\u2019 at the annual international development awards in Kenya.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Receiving the award at a ceremony in Nairobi last weekend, Country Director Peter Okoth described the prize as a victory for the small scale farming communities with whom Self Help Africa has worked across Kenya for over 30 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said that from small beginnings, when Self Help Africa operated as a small NGO in Nakuru County, the organisation had since then developed a nationwide presence in 46 out of Kenya\u2019s 47 counties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kenya\u2019s prestigious annual NGO Awards seek to celebrate excellence, innovation and impact across the country\u2019s civil society sector, and recognise organisations and individuals who are driving transformation and improving lives. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Public voting accounted for 40% of the overall score at the annual awards, with the remaining assessment following a technical review by a panel of adjudicators. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
There are currently more than 11,000 registered NGOs in Kenya, and more than 320 were nominated for prizes at the 2025 awards ceremony.
