In Baringo County, Kenya, people are facing some of the harshest impacts of climate change, including prolonged droughts, food insecurity and economic vulnerability. At the 2024 New York Change Makers Ball, we raised more than $180,000 to strengthen climate resilience and help thousands of people adapt and thrive.

Here\u2019s what that investment helped to achieve<\/strong>
– 631 farmer producer groups reached with a total membership of 12,900 smallholder farmers, 67% of them women.
– 20 schools now have access to clean drinking water, and an additional 8 wells have been rehabilitated and are serving thousands more.
– 500+ lead farmers trained in climate-smart practices, impacting over 2,000 farming households.
– 520 kitchen gardens were constructed, providing families with a reliable source of nutritious vegetables.
– 640 gender champions trained to ensure inclusive leadership and long-term sustainability.
– More than 20 enterprises were established, creating local employment for women and young people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

growing resilient crops and saving for the

Why supporters’ role is transformative<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The challenges in Baringo are real and ongoing, but Self Help Africa is working closely with communities to invest in new skills and local innovation, transforming local economies and unlocking the
potential of existing resources. Building sustainable livelihoods and lasting resilience for the
future.

This support enables business groups to take the next step and invest in new products and
services. It helps farmers draw on traditional knowledge to restore degraded soil, and it gives
children the chance to learn and grow in a safe and healthy environment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Baringo’s next chapter<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the end of 2025, Self Help Africa will officially hand over the important work of the Baringo
Resilience Initiative to our key partner, the Baringo County government. This marks a critical
next phase in our approach, one that prioritises fostering and supporting local leadership to
drive long-term, sustainable change. We are committed to ensuring the impact we have
achieved together will continue to grow in the years ahead.

While we will continue to explore opportunities to work in
Baringo in the future, we are confident that, thanks to our supporters our partners across the region are
