We’re supporting women on the frontline of climate change, and you’re helping! Thanks to your generous support we raised over \u00a330,000 in donations with our recent BBC Radio 4 Appeal – and will be able to assist 2,000 women headed households in Baringo, Kenya, to cope with and adapt to the effects that climate\u00a0change is having on their livelihoods. This will assist them in their ability to grow food and support their families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hundreds of donors across the length and breath of the UK responded to our radio appeal, which was presented by environmental campaigner and broadcaster Liz Bonnin, on our behalf.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

TV presenter and environmental campaigner Liz Bonnin told Lina\u2019s story, describing how vulnerable women across sub-Saharan Africa are needing to adapt and transform how they farm, to survive in the face of a changing climate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stronger<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

To combat the effects of climate change, Lina has begun rearing improved breed goats, that are bigger and stronger than local breeds, and has supplemented her livestock with poultry. She has also started to grow millet and green gram, two nutritious food crops that are able to withstand the hot and dry conditions, much better than the traditional staple, maize.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Your donations helped provide families like Lina\u2019s with an improved breed of goat, a clutch of chicks, drought tolerant varieties of seed and training, so that they can survive in this challenging and ever-changing environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
