Our largest project is a five-year European Union funded ENTERPRISE Zambia\u00a0 project that commenced in early\u00a0 2020<\/span><span>.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">These projects address a selection of integrated issues: sustainable agriculture, food and nutrition security, research into and production of improved varieties of seed, rural enterprise development and income generation, environmental rehabilitation, <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">and climate change Household Members of MSME employees minimum 22,800 individuals. Final beneficiaries will be at least 22,800 household members of the MSME employees (this figure is likely to be higher as the assumption is that many of the 6,000 FTE positions will be part-time)<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><a href=\"https:\/\/selfhelpafrica.org\/greentech4ce\/\"><span class=\"s1\">T<\/span>he \u2018Green Recycling Enterprises Engaging in New Technology for a Circular Economy in Zambia\u2019 (GREEN Tech4CE)<\/a> is a \u20ac22.7m project that will support the creation and consolidation of SMEs and start-up companies, particularly created and managed by young male\/female entrepreneurs that invest in green, climate smart and digital business opportunities and decent job creation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span style=\"color: #72b735;\"><b>22,800 Households<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"x-row x-container max width e2500-e26 m1xg-3 m1xg-4 m1xg-8\" id=\"capacity-building\"><div class=\"x-row-inner\"><div class=\"x-col e2500-e27 m1xg-d\"><hr class=\"x-line e2500-e28 m1xg-i m1xg-j\"\/><hr class=\"x-line e2500-e29 m1xg-l\"\/><h4  class=\"h-custom-headline h4\" ><span>Capacity building for forest carbon measurement, reporting and verification (MRV) in Zambia and Malawi forests<\/span><\/h4><hr class=\"x-line e2500-e31 m1xg-j m1xg-k\"\/><div id=\"\" class=\"x-text\" style=\"\" ><p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\" style=\"color: #72b735;\"><b>Objective: <\/b><\/span>The Capacity Building for Forest Carbon Measurement, Reporting and Verification (MRV) in Zambia and Malawi Forests.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s2\">T<\/span>he Project aims to provide tools for MRV at field and management level, development of certification schemes, and strengthen the capacity of Zambia and Malawi governments in managing Agriculture, Forestry and Other Land.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"x-row x-container max width e2500-e33 m1xg-3 m1xg-4 m1xg-9\"><div class=\"x-row-inner\"><div class=\"x-col e2500-e34 m1xg-d\"><hr class=\"x-line e2500-e35 m1xg-i m1xg-j\"\/><hr class=\"x-line e2500-e36 m1xg-l\"\/><h4  class=\"h-custom-headline h4\" ><span>PROTECTING AND RESTORING THE\nENVIRONMENT AND SUPPORTING\nTHE EMERGENCE OF A RESILIENT AND\nVIBRANT ECONOMY IN KAFUE - PRESERVE\nKAFUE<\/span><\/h4><hr class=\"x-line e2500-e38 m1xg-j m1xg-k\"\/><div id=\"\" class=\"x-text\" style=\"\" ><p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\" style=\"color: #72b735;\"><b>Objective: <\/b><\/span>To improve the resilience, food, income and nutrition security of 4,500 households in the Monze, Namwala and Mazabuka districts of Zambia.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s2\">T<\/span>he project is implemented in the Kafue Flats wetlands and will support 4,500 households (27,000 beneficiaries). The programme will facilitate the regeneration of degraded land, afforestation and tree planting in selected sites and the protection of existing forests. Natural Resource Management Plans will be developed and adopted by communities and Village Natural Resource Management Committees (VNRMCs) will be established and strengthened. The programme will engage closely with the Forestry Department and the Department of Wildlife and National Parks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">Farmers will be trained in climate smart agricultural practices such as agroforestry (growth of fruit trees and woodlots as sources of fuel), soil and water conservation and intercropping. The project will follow the principles of inclusive market-driven development, delivering sustainable results by capacitating the FSCs to deliver key program elements to the participating smallholders and SMEs and working with other value chain actors to address development challenges by solving market failures. Using the FSC approach will ensure positive impacts on the food system in the nine target districts are sustained through inclusive value chains after the end of the project implementation.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"x-row x-container max width e2500-e54 m1xg-3 m1xg-4 m1xg-c\" id=\"sustainable-food-systems\"><div class=\"x-row-inner\"><div class=\"x-col e2500-e55 m1xg-d\"><hr class=\"x-line e2500-e56 m1xg-i m1xg-j\"\/><hr class=\"x-line e2500-e57 m1xg-l\"\/><h4  class=\"h-custom-headline h4\" ><span>Developing sustainable food systems in drought-affected and food insecure districts of Zambia (DROPP)<\/span><\/h4><hr class=\"x-line e2500-e59 m1xg-j m1xg-k\"\/><div id=\"\" class=\"x-text\" style=\"\" ><p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\" style=\"color: #72b735;\"><b>Objective: <\/b><\/span>Community-driven development increases communities\u2019 food, nutrition, safe water and income security, resulting in increased resilience and reduced vulnerability to environmental, climate and health risks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s2\">T<\/span>he project is implemented in Southern Province and will support 3,000 households (18,000 beneficiaries) to diversify from maize into more drought tolerant crops. Lead farmers will be trained in CSA techniques and drought tolerant seeds will be distributed. A Functional Landscape approach will be applied that balances economic needs with protection of the natural environment. Through the project training will be conducted in post-harvest handling, food preservation and storage. Savings and credit groups will be established and links with credit and markets will be facilitated. As this component is implemented in a geographical area prone to both floods and drought, communities will be supported to conduct risk assessments and put Disaster Risk Management plans in place.
