Shining stars, sparkling drinks, lively music and a festive atmosphere made it a night to remember as 520 supporters gathered at Telford International Centre, Shropshire, and raised close to £40,000 to support our work, at Self Help Africa’s inaugural ‘Firecracker Ball’.

The evening was an opportunity for both long-standing and new supporters to meet and mingle, and join us in celebrating the life-changing work that Self Help Africa is achieving with communities right across sub-Saharan Africa.

Executive Director David Dalton thanked all those who turned out to support the event, and for also generously supporting the charity auction which added thousands of pounds to the sum that was netted on the night. Mr Dalton also complimented the Shrewsbury-based voluntary organising committee, and the many sponsors who did so much to make the event a success, from Southwater event group and Salus Gate to many other local companies .

Guests enjoyed a delicious three-course meal and live music by the energetic ‘Hot Jazz Biscuits’ band, and got competitive over the fabulous prizes in the charity auction!

Proceeds from the event will go to support Self Help Africa’s development projects, while a sum from the fund will also be donated by the committee to local homeless charity, The Shrewsbury Ark.
