{"id":29619,"date":"2023-08-29T09:47:52","date_gmt":"2023-08-29T08:47:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/selfhelpafrica.org\/ie\/?p=29619"},"modified":"2023-08-29T10:28:50","modified_gmt":"2023-08-29T09:28:50","slug":"new-york-marathon-2023","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/selfhelpafrica.org\/ie\/new-york-marathon-2023\/","title":{"rendered":"Putting best foot forward in New York Marathon"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A 12 strong team of runners are aiming to raise tens of thousands of dollars to support our work, when they compete in this year\u2019s TCS New York Marathon, in November.<\/p><p>The group will join a field of 50,000 competitors this year\u2019s New York race, which remains the biggest marathon in the world.<\/p><p>The event, which plots a course through all five of New York\u2019s boroughs, takes place in the Big Apple on Sunday, November 5th next.<\/p><p>To date, members of Team Self Help Africa have raised over $22,000 in sponsorship to support their efforts, but will be canvassing friends, family and colleagues as the countdown to the event gathers pace.  They are hoping to raise a total of over $50,000 with their combined efforts.<\/p><p>A big shout out to the amazing volunteers who have signed up to support Self Help Africa at this year\u2019s event. They include Shannon Nolan, an educator; Ben Colling, a dad of three from Chicago, Martin Gayle, Caroline Barkley, Tom Camargo and David Newhouse.<\/p><p>Also on the roster are Will Miller, who&#8217;s familiar with Self Help Africa\u2019s work from his time living in Kenya, Barnie Moul, who signed up for the event as a personal challenge, researcher Aidan Burns, Malawian born New Yorker
