Services/Work Description: Production of documentary films and photography services for R4 – Rural Resilience Initiatives Programme in Amhara region.

Self Help Africa (SHA) is an international NGO dedicated to the vision of an economically thriving and resilient rural Africa. SHA has been working in Ethiopia since 1984 and is re-registered by F.D.R.E. Authority for Civil Society Organizations with a registration number of 0051. SHA has been working with smallholder farmers, farmer associations, cooperatives, and agribusinesses to help farmers grow and sell more food, improve diets, diversify incomes and make their livelihoods more sustainable and resilient to external shocks. It also works to build awareness of issues affecting smallholders and represent their interests at policy and institutional level.  

SHA is currently implementing a portfolio of 6 projects funded by a variety of institutional and private donors in three national regional states of Ethiopia: namely, Amhara, Oromia and SNNP. One of these projects is a project entitled: “R4 – Rural resilience Initiatives Programme”. The proposed activities were delivered in line with the R4 Rural Resilience Initiative results framework, with the overall goal of contributing to improved food security, nutrition and livelihoods of 54,000 smallholder farmers vulnerable to climate-related shocks by 2024.  

Activities will be delivered across the four R4 components:  

  1. Risk Reduction – improved natural resource management and disaster risk reduction through asset rehabilitation and creation;  
  1. Risk Transfer – Assist farmers in coping and stimulating faster recovery to extreme climate events; 
  1. Risk Retention – strengthen financial literacy, savings capacity of food insecure households; and  
  1. Prudent Risk Taking – Enhanced smallholder access to microloans/credit and technical assistance to diversify and increase their incomes.  

SHA has successfully delivered the programme deliverables across the 16 districts in East Gojam, South Gonder, South Wollo and North Shewa zones of Amhara region despite several challenges. The core achievement and implementation to date is annexed to this document.  

The SHA programme approach ensures beneficiary targeting mechanisms are inclusive and target the most vulnerable, and that delivery promotes gender equality at every opportunity. 

In this process, SHA is looking for a consultant firm/ individual who have experience in audio-video documentation of project interventions with capturing best practices, stories, learning and disseminate for scale up and replication.
